¿Jugará también Menéame en la liga publicitaria?

Vía Alianzo he conocido está entrevista realizada a Ricardo Galli, uno de los dos fundadores de Menéame. En la entrevista habla de los ingresos publicitarios (unos 4.000 € al mes) que viene teniendo Menéame a través de la red de afiliación Ad Words de Google, aunque también usan FeedBurner para insertar publicidad en sus feeds.

El propio Ricardo afirma estar planteándose ampliar la oferta publicitaria más allá de AdWords y FeedBurner. Aunque todavía no tienen muy claro cómo será por sus declaraciones será a través de un tercero, probablemente una red de bloggers. Para dar ese paso lo “único” que piden los amigos de Menéame es que este tercero les ofrezca una cierta garantía de ingresos sensiblemente superior a la que les proporciona Google.

En los últimos tiempos hemos visto como cada vez más bloggers encuentran interesante la oportunidad de obtener los ingresos vía publicidad. Algunos de ellos en su momento incluso llegaron a mantener una actitud beligerante ante el uso del blog como soporte publicitario (recuerdo, por ejemplo, la famosa campaña del búho que emprendió en su momento Microsiervos).

A día de hoy blogs de la talla de Enrique Dans (4º en importancia según el ranking de Top.Blogs.es), Microsiervos (1ro en el ranking) y Error500 (con la posición 27) ofrecen formatos publicitarios gráficos en su homes a través de Weblogs SL, aunque la presencia de publicidad en estos blogs es muy limitada.

Desde luego que no seré yo el que desde esta tribuna critique ninguna de estas iniciativa publicitarias. De hecho llevo tiempo reflexionando sobre lo absorbente que resulta intentar mantener debidamente actualizado un blog, a parte de los costes que tiene su mantenimiento y el tráfico. En la entrevista Ricardo Gallo desvela algunos detalles económico sobre el mantenimiento de Menéame: disponen de dos servidores en la actualidad que les cuestan aproximadamente unos 500 €/mes, lo que les incluye un volumen de transferencia de hasta 2,5 TB.

Pero no es solo una cuestión de costes de hosting y tráfico, un blogger con un alto nivel de actividad dedica mucho tiempo a escribir sus posts, tiempo al que se suma el que debe emplear para estar al tanto de todo lo que ocurre en el mundo en torno a la temática que haya elegido. A falta de otros modelos de negocio que hayan funcionado parece bastante lógico que cuando uno alcanza una audiencia fiel y numerosa opte por la publicidad para cubrir sus costes y, si es posible, tener beneficios.

Ampliación: casualidades de la vida :-) acabo de leer un post en la página de Weblogs SL muy interesante donde multitud de bloggers hacen comentarios sobre la evolución de la blogosfera en estos últimos tres años y la publicidad está omnipresente en todos ellos. Merece la pena echarle un ojo.
